Fans can make the room feel three to eight degrees cooler, allowing you to dial your thermostat to a higher temperature and still feel just as comfortable. Put this wind-chill factor to work! Ceiling fans are even cheaper than you might expect: they start out at around $40 at your local home improvement store, and usually cost less than a penny an hour to run. (Typical 36” / 48” / 52” ceiling fans use about 55 / 75 / 90 watts of electricity at top speed). Central AC costs 70 times more to run than a fan.
