Set Water Heater to 120 Degrees (°F)

You may use hot water more than you think: washing dishes, showering, washing clothes, etc. The best way to get an accurate reading of your water temperature is by holding a meat thermometer under a faucet. If it reads higher than 120 degrees, turn your hot water heater down! For each ten degree reduction in water temperature, you can save between 3%–5% in energy costs.
